my submission for the “What’s Your Art” contest
I am a world-class inter-disciplinary artist who uses multiple media in an attempt to stimulate the consciousness of our shared human existence. I have shown work around the world under the name Inbred Hybrid Collective, a conceptual art project which took place from 2005-2012. Projects which I have been involved in have been shown at New York’s Armory show (twice), Pool art fair, scope art fair, red dot art fair, Lincoln Center (three times), Art Basel Miami, Ontario Crafts Council, MoMA’s PS1 (Laura Parnes’ County Downe), Bereznitsky Gallery, MIT, Deitch Projects, the Venice Biennale, The London Biennial (curated the NYC satellite event in 2009), the Liverpool Independents Biennial, The Queens Museum (sound art), The Staten Island Museum (performance), The Leslie Lohman Museum (where I curated the first drag-themed event at the first GLBT museum in the USA), Hollywood (RuPaul’s Drag Race Art Show), Santiago (Yessir), Philadelphia (ACTUP Philadelphia), and many other places. I curated the series Book Club Burlesque from 2005-2010, receiving notices in The New Yorker, The Village Voice, and many other media outlets. My work includes fauvist colors, dystopian themes, and penetrating provocations. My first written work (a poem entitled “because I never knew you” was published anonymously in northern Alberta when I was only 14, and my first show of paintings opened in Edmonton in 2001, selling 50% of the work on opening night. After an absence of 15 years I have recently returned to Edmonton and am bringing my training and resume back to the place which inspired me in my youth; a place where I focused on the work rather than the career, and where I intend to once again. The painting below is from September of this year, it is acrylic on canvas, and is called “Sisyphus.” The work you will see on links (below) is NSFW, but you will see the same dedication to illuminating truths in an attempt to hi-light the struggles we all face in our quest for truth and human progress.
